Carlos Andrés y Morell was born in 1753 in a town called Planes. His family was part of the nobility, which meant they had a high social standing. He became a lawyer, working for the Royal Councils. These councils were important legal bodies that advised the king.

Becoming a Politician

In 1810, Carlos Andrés y Morell was chosen to be a representative, or "deputy," for the province of Valencia. He was elected on February 14, 1810. He took the place of another deputy, José Lledó, who could not attend because he had been captured by the French. Carlos Andrés y Morell officially started his work in the Cortes of Cádiz on June 12, 1811.

His Role in the Cortes of Cádiz

The Cortes of Cádiz was a special parliament that met during the Peninsular War. This was a time when Spain was fighting against Napoleon's French army. The Cortes created the Cadiz Constitution of 1812, which was a very important document for Spain.

Carlos Andrés y Morell was known for his traditional views. He was careful about giving too much power to the government. For example, when they discussed new rules for the Regency (the temporary government), he worried that the government might become too powerful. He believed it was important to prevent any kind of unfair rule.

He also worked on special committees. One committee looked at ideas and documents about the Serranía de Ronda region. He was one of the people who helped create the Cadiz Constitution, which set out new laws and rights for the Spanish people.

Later Life and Legacy

Besides being a politician, Carlos Andrés y Morell was also a writer and a translator. He was even a member of the Florence Academy, a group of important thinkers.

In 1817, King Fernando VII offered him a job as a judge in Majorca, but Carlos Andrés y Morell turned it down. He passed away in 1820. His work as a lawyer, politician, and writer helped shape Spain during a time of big changes.
