The Caro and Cuervo Institute (Spanish: Instituto Caro y Cuervo) is a very important place in Colombia. It's like a special school and research center all about the Spanish language. They focus on literature (stories and poems), philology (the study of language in old texts), and linguistics (how language works).
This institute does a lot of cool things. They research the Spanish language and help people in Colombia love reading. They also publish books by Colombian writers and work to keep Colombia's amazing literary history safe. The institute is named after two famous Colombian language experts: Miguel Antonio Caro Tobar, who was also a president, and Rufino José Cuervo Urisarri.
Why Was the Institute Created?
The Caro and Cuervo Institute was started by the Colombian government in 1942. Its very first big job was to create a special dictionary for the Spanish language. This dictionary is called Diccionario de Construcción y Régimen de la Lengua Castellana. It helps people understand how Spanish words are used and put together.
