Carol Heyer grew up with her parents, William and Merlyn Heyer. She went to Moorpark College to study. After that, she continued her education at California Lutheran University. These schools helped her learn the skills she uses in her art today.

Her Career as an Artist

Carol Heyer has worked on many different projects. She has drawn pictures for magazines and books about fantasy and science fiction. Most of these illustrations were made in the 1990s.

She also created art for popular role-playing games. One of these games is Dungeons & Dragons. She drew pictures for books like Tome of Magic and Legends & Lore for the game.

Carol Heyer is also well-known for her artwork in the collectible card game Magic: The Gathering. Her illustrations are part of many cards in this game.

Writing for Movies

Besides drawing, Carol Heyer has also written for movies. She helped write the story for an action film called Thunder Run. This movie came out in 1986.

Creating Children's Books

Carol Heyer loves making picture books for kids. One of her most famous books is Once Upon a Cool Motorcycle Dude. It was published in 2005. In 2009, this book won the Monarch Award. Children in Illinois, from kindergarten to third grade, voted for it.

The story in Once Upon a Cool Motorcycle Dude is special. It's about two children who make up a folktale together in their classroom. They take turns telling parts of the story. Kevin O'Malley wrote the main story. Carol Heyer and Scott Goto drew the pictures for the parts the children made up. Carol Heyer drew the "Princess Tenderheart" parts. Scott Goto drew the "Motorcycle Dude" and giant parts. Critics said the different artists' work blended together very well.

Carol Heyer and Kevin O'Malley also made a sequel to this book. It is called Once Upon a Royal Superbaby and was published in 2010. This book features the son of Queen Tenderheart and the Motorcycle Dude.

Carol Heyer has also written and illustrated her own picture books. Many of these stories are about Christmas and Easter. She has also retold classic fairy tales and legends in her unique style.
