Carole Anne-Marie Gist (born May 8, 1969) is an American TV host and model. She is famous for winning the Miss USA 1990 title. Carole made history as the very first African American woman to win the Miss USA crown.
Carole Gist: A Trailblazer
Carole first won the title of Miss Michigan USA. After that, she competed in the Miss USA 1990 pageant. She won the national crown on March 2, 1990, in Wichita, Kansas. This was a big moment for her home state of Michigan. She was the first person from Michigan to win Miss USA.
At 20 years old, Carole was 6 feet tall. She competed against many other talented women. Some of the top finalists included representatives from Georgia, Alaska, Kentucky, South Carolina, and New Jersey. After winning Miss USA, Carole went on to compete in the Miss Universe 1990 pageant. She finished as the first runner-up to Mona Grudt from Norway.

Carole Gist is a graduate of Cass Technical High School in Detroit. When she won the Miss USA title, she was studying at Northwood University. She was a junior, focusing on marketing and management.
