Caroline Phillips (born 1966) is an Australian artist. She creates amazing sculptures and photographs. Her art often uses everyday things like fabric and industrial materials. She uses these to explore modern ideas about women and art.
Caroline also works as a curator. This means she helps organize art shows. She also does research projects. These projects often highlight the strength of women's art. They also challenge unfairness in art and culture. Caroline is the Secretary of the Women's Art Register in Melbourne, Australia. In 2021, she won an award from the City of Yarra. This award was for her great contributions to the arts.
Caroline Phillips: Artist and Curator
Caroline Phillips studied art for many years. In 1983, she earned her first degree in Fine Art (Painting). She studied at the Phillip Institute of Technology in Melbourne. Later, she continued her studies at the Victorian College of the Arts. She completed a postgraduate diploma in 2009. She then earned a Master of Fine Arts in 2012. Finally, she completed her PhD in Fine Art in 2017.
As a curator, Caroline has helped put together several important art shows:
- The f Word-Contemporary Feminist Art in Australia (2014): This show explored feminist art in Australia. It was held at galleries in Sale and Ararat, Victoria.
- f-generation: feminism, art, progressions (2015): She co-curated this show with Juliette Peers and Veronica Caven Aldous. It was at the George Paton Gallery in Melbourne.
- AS IF: Echoes of the Women’s Art Register (2015): This was a team project. Caroline worked with Juliette Peers, Stephanie Leigh, and the Women's Art Register. The show took place at West Space in Melbourne.
