Caroline's Early Life and Career

Caroline was born in Gothenburg, Sweden. Her family, the von Knorrings, were part of the nobility. When her father's business faced problems, Caroline was encouraged to learn photography. This became her way to earn a living.

She moved from Gothenburg to Stockholm. There, she opened her own photo studio. It was located on Jakobsbergsgatan and she ran it from 1864 to 1871. In the 1860s, there were about 100 photographers in Stockholm. Only 15 of them were women, showing how special Caroline was! She even showed her work at the Industrial Exhibition in Stockholm in 1866.

Later Life and Passion for Photography

In 1872, Caroline married Ehrenfried Roth. He was a wealthy politician, meaning he was involved in government and public affairs. After marrying, she closed her studio in Stockholm. She then moved to a large house, called a mansion, in Sunnansjö.

At Sunnansjö, Caroline continued her passion for photography. She especially loved taking pictures of landscapes, just for fun. She lived there until her husband passed away in 1905. After his death, she moved to Ludvika mansion. She kept the Sunnansjö mansion as her summer home. Caroline von Knorring died in 1925. She was buried in her husband's family grave at Ludvika Ulrica church's cemetery.
