About Carolyn Jackson's Early Life and Education
Carolyn Jackson grew up in Chicago, Illinois. She went to Lincoln University in St. Louis. There, she earned two degrees: a Bachelor of Arts in sociology and a Master of Arts in counseling. A Bachelor of Arts degree is usually the first degree you get from a university, and a Master of Arts is a higher degree you can get after that.
Carolyn Jackson's Career and Public Service
Before becoming a politician, Carolyn Jackson worked to help young people. While studying for her master's degree, she worked at the Cole County Juvenile Attention Center.
After that, she worked for 30 years as a sociologist and counselor. She helped people in the Cook County Adult Probation Department. After many years, she retired from this job.
In November 2018, she was elected to the Indiana House of Representatives. This means she became a lawmaker for the state of Indiana. As a lawmaker, she helps make decisions and create new rules for the state.
During the 2019–2020 legislative session, Carolyn Jackson had an important role. She was the main minority member on the House Select Committee on Government Reduction. This committee looks for ways to make the government work better and more efficiently.
