Santiago de Liniers was a very important person. He was the viceroy of the River Plate. A viceroy was like a governor. They ruled a large area for the King of Spain. Liniers lived in this house from 1806 to 1809.
A Big Moment in History
A major historical event happened in this house. It was on August 20, 1806. General William Beresford was a British leader. He signed an agreement to surrender here. This happened during the first British invasion of the Río de la Plata. The British forces were trying to take over the area. But they were defeated by the Spanish.
