Cassels' Store is a cool old building in McIntosh, Georgia. It's what's left of a store built way back in 1887. This special spot was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. This means it's an important place in history!

The Story of Cassels' Store

Building a Landmark

The Cassels' Store was built in 1887. A man named Robert Quarterman Cassels built it. It was built in McIntosh, Georgia, right where another store used to be.

This was no small shop! It was a general store, meaning it sold all sorts of things. It stood three stories tall. Imagine that! It even had an elevator, which was very modern for its time.

Family Business

The store was officially called R. Q. Cassels and Sons Store. Robert ran the business with his two sons. It was a true family effort.

The store was located right across from McIntosh's railroad depot. This was a busy spot. People would arrive by train and then visit the store.

The Store's Later Years

Robert Cassels passed away in 1900. But his sons kept the store running. They continued the family business until 1928.

After it closed, the building slowly fell apart. Today, only some parts of the original structure remain. Even so, it's still an important piece of history.

A Historic Place

On August 5, 1983, Cassels' Store was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places. This list includes places that are important to American history. It helps protect them for future generations.
