Learning and Working
Catherine Goldstein went to the Ecole normale supérieure from 1976 to 1980. This is a very good school in France. In 1978, she earned a special math degree called an agrégation.
She then continued her studies. In 1981, she earned her doctorate degree. This is the highest university degree you can get. Her special project was about advanced math topics like p-adic L-functions.
From 1980 to 2002, she worked at the University of Paris-Sud. After that, she moved to the Institut de mathématiques de Jussieu (IMJ). She works there as a director of research. This means she leads important math studies.
Her Math Work
Catherine Goldstein is known for her work in mathematics. She was a main speaker at the International Congress of Mathematicians in 2018. This is a very important meeting for mathematicians from all over the world.
She also helped edit a book called The shaping of arithmetic after C. F. Gauss's Disquisitiones arithmeticae. This book is about how math, especially arithmetic, developed after a famous mathematician named Carl Friedrich Gauss.
