Catriona Morrison is a well-known British athlete from Scotland. She was born on January 11, 1977, in Glasgow. Catriona became a professional in sports like duathlon and triathlon, winning many important races around the world.
Amazing Achievements in Duathlon and Triathlon
Catriona had a fantastic career in both duathlon and triathlon. A duathlon involves running, then cycling, and then running again. A triathlon adds swimming to the mix: swimming, cycling, and then running.
Winning Big Races
In 2005, Catriona won a silver medal at the ITU Duathlon World Championships. The next year, 2006, she won a gold medal at the same event. She also earned a silver medal at the Long Distance Duathlon World Championships that year.
In 2007, Catriona won a bronze medal at the Long Distance Triathlon World Championships in Lorient. She was also a two-time winner of the World Powerman Duathlon Long Distance Championships in 2007 and 2008.
One of her big wins was in 2010 in Edinburgh. She took home her second gold medal at the Duathlon World Championships. Her winning time was 2 hours, 2 minutes, and 48 seconds.
Catriona also won many Ironman 70.3 races. These are half-Ironman events. She won the St Croix race four times, along with events in the UK and Galveston. She also won full Ironman titles, including Ironman Texas and Ironman Lanzarote. In Lanzarote, she had a huge challenge when her bike had a problem, but she still managed to win!
Life After Professional Sport
Catriona decided to retire from professional duathlon and triathlon in January 2015. But she didn't stop being active and helping others.
Helping Young People Through Sport
After retiring, Catriona completed the Saltire Fellowship. This is a special program in Scotland and at Babson College in Boston that helps people become entrepreneurs. She also helps at the University of Stirling.
Catriona is a role model for the "Winning Scotland Foundation." She visits schools and junior sports clubs. Her goal is to encourage, inspire, and motivate young people to be physically active through sport.
She also co-founded "Everactiv" [1]. This is a sports clothing brand for young people. Their main idea is to empower, motivate, and inspire young people to stay active.
Honored for Her Contributions
In 2015, Catriona was given a special honor. She was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). This award recognized her great contributions to sport and her volunteer work in Scotland.
