About Cecilia Seghizzi

Early Life and Education

Cecilia Seghizzi was the daughter of Cesare Augusto Seghizzi. He was a well-known composer and choirmaster in Italy. During World War I, Cecilia and her family had to leave their home. They lived in a refugee camp in Wagna, Austria.

After the war, they returned to Italy. Cecilia began studying the violin. She was very good at it! She graduated with honors from the "G. Verdi" Conservatory in Milan.

Career and Achievements

When she was in her thirties, Cecilia balanced two important roles. She performed concerts as a violinist. She also taught music in middle schools and music schools.

Later, she started focusing on composing music. She earned another diploma from the "Tartini" Conservatory in Trieste. Her teacher was Vito Levi.

In her fifties, Cecilia started something special. She founded and led the Gorizia polyphonic group. This was a choir that performed many voices together. Her group won first prize in a national competition in Brescia. This success led to many concerts and recordings both in Italy and other countries. She spent the rest of her life in Gorizia, Italy.

Her Musical Style

Cecilia Seghizzi wrote over 130 musical pieces. Many of these were for choirs, known as choral music. In her choral works, she used lively sounds and strong rhythms. Her music often had a fun, light, and humorous feel.

Her style was quite traditional. It was linked to a style called neo-classicism. This means her music often looked back to older, classical forms. She did not use the newer, more experimental music styles that became popular in the 1930s.

Her Long Life

On September 5, 2018, Cecilia Seghizzi celebrated a very special birthday. She turned 110 years old! This made her a supercentenarian, someone who lives to be over 110. She passed away on November 22, 2019, at the age of 111.
