The very first people to settle permanently in this area arrived in the year 1844. They built their homes and started a community in what was then called Balm.

How Did Cedar Springs Get Its Name?

A post office was opened in Balm in 1885, helping people send and receive mail. Later, in 1910, the name of the community and its post office was officially changed from Balm to Cedar Springs. The post office continued to serve the community until it closed in 1937.
