Cedric Cox (born 19 August 1997) is an Australian rules footballer. He used to play for the Brisbane Lions in the Australian Football League (AFL). He played as a defender and midfielder.
Early Life and Junior Football
Cedric Cox grew up in a place called Halls Creek, Western Australia. This is where he first started playing junior football. Later, he moved to Camperdown, Victoria. There, he played for a team called the North Ballarat Rebels.
AFL Career Highlights
Cedric Cox was chosen by the Brisbane Lions in the 2016 national draft. He was the 24th player picked overall.
He played his first AFL game in 2017. This was in Round 4 against the Richmond team at the Gabba stadium. The Brisbane Lions lost that game.
Wearing Number 67
In 2017, Cedric was going to wear a special jersey number, 67. This was for the Sir Doug Nicholls Indigenous Round. This round celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander players and culture.
The number 67 was chosen to remember a big event from 1967. In that year, Australians voted in a special way. This vote meant that Indigenous Australians would be counted in the national census. It also meant they would be treated the same as everyone else in laws. Even though he was going to wear the special jersey, Cedric did not play in that game.
Cedric played 13 games and scored 3 goals for the Brisbane Lions. After the 2020 AFL season, he wanted to move back to Western Australia. He then left the Brisbane Lions team.
