Celia Rose Gooding (born February 22, 2000) is an American actor and singer. They are the child of actress LaChanze and Calvin Gooding. Celia became well-known for their first role on Broadway as Mary Frances "Frankie" Healy in the rock musical Jagged Little Pill.
For this role, they won a 2021 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. They were also nominated for a 2020 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Featured Role in a Musical. At 20 years old, they were one of the youngest people ever nominated in this category. Gooding now plays Nyota Uhura in the Paramount+ TV series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, which started in 2022.

Celia Rose Gooding grew up in New York City. Their mother is actress, singer, and dancer LaChanze. Their father, Calvin Gooding, sadly passed away when Celia was young. Celia has one sister named Zaya.
Gooding went to the Hackley School in Tarrytown, New York. They graduated with honors in performing arts. Sometimes, they took time off from school to work on a musical called Jagged Little Pill. During their junior year, they had special tutoring in the mornings before rehearsals. Their final school project was about their part in the show's tryout. They also studied dance at the Alvin Ailey Institute.
In 2018, Gooding started college at Pace University. They studied Musical Theatre. They left Pace after their first year. This was because rehearsals for the Broadway version of Jagged Little Pill began in September 2019.

Celia Gooding was inspired to become an actor by their mother. They watched their mother win a Tony Award on TV in 2006. This was for her role in The Color Purple. However, Celia only started acting in musicals in ninth grade. In high school, Gooding played different roles. One role was Carmen in a production of Fame.
In 2017, when they were 17, Gooding was cast in Jagged Little Pill. This musical was based on the music of Grammy Award-winning artist Alanis Morissette. Gooding was part of the show's first reading. They also took part in the show's world premiere in May 2018.
Gooding played Frankie again when the show moved to Broadway in November 2019. They received many honors for their performance. They were named Broadway World's Debut of the Month. They also performed on TV shows like Late Night with Seth Meyers and Good Morning America.
In 2019, Celia and their mother, LaChanze, were both starring in Broadway shows at the same time. This is a very rare event for a mother and child.
Gooding received many awards for their role in Jagged Little Pill. The show later closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. They won the award for Best Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical at the first Antonyo Awards. They were also nominated for a Tony Award.
