The Center for Women In Technology (CWIT) is a special group at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). It started in July 1998. CWIT was created to help and encourage girls and women to get involved with technology. This includes learning how to create technology and how to use it.

At first, CWIT was called the "Center for Women and Information Technology." It offered many helpful resources and links about women and technology. CWIT worked to support students from kindergarten all the way through high school (K-12). It also helped university students and women already working in tech jobs. Since 2006, CWIT has also included students studying engineering. In 2011, its name was changed to the Center for Women In Technology.

Scholarships for Tech Students

CWIT offers special scholarships to help talented students go to college. These scholarships are for students who want to study computer science, computer engineering, or information systems. High school seniors who plan to study these subjects can apply.

Students who receive these scholarships are called "Scholars." They get help and advice from university teachers and tech experts. They also get to join fun activities and events designed just for them.

Cyber Scholars Program

CWIT also works with the UMBC Center for Cybersecurity. Together, they run the UMBC Cyber Scholars Program. This program helps prepare students to become experts in cybersecurity. Cybersecurity is about protecting computer systems from attacks. The Northrop Grumman Foundation helps fund this important program.
