The Center for Women in Technology (CWIT) is a special group at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. It started in July 1998. CWIT helps women get involved in technology. They want more women to create technology and to use it well.

When it first began, CWIT was called the "Center for Women and Information Technology." It offered many helpful resources and links. CWIT worked to support girls and women from school all the way through their careers. In 2006, engineering students also joined the center. Then, in 2011, its name changed to the Center for Women in Technology.

Scholarships for College Students

The Center for Women in Technology offers scholarships for talented college students. These scholarships are for those studying computer science, computer engineering, or information systems. High school seniors planning to study these subjects can also apply. Students who get these scholarships are called "Scholars." They receive guidance from university teachers and tech experts. They also join special activities and events.

Cyber Security Scholarships

CWIT also works with the UMBC Center for Cybersecurity. Together, they run the UMBC Cyber Scholars Program. This program helps prepare students to become experts in cybersecurity. Cybersecurity is about protecting computer systems from attacks. The Northrop Grumman Foundation helps fund this important program.
