Ceyda Aslı Kılıçkıran (born February 16, 1968) is a talented Turkish screenwriter and film director. She is known for creating movies that often focus on the lives and experiences of women.

Biography

Early Life and Education

Ceyda Aslı Kılıçkıran was born on February 16, 1968, in İzmir, Turkey. Her father worked as a director and producer for the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT). After finishing high school, she studied English literature and Philology at Istanbul University. She graduated from the university in 1993.

Becoming a Filmmaker

Kılıçkıran first worked as a writer for international newspapers. These included Daily News and Middle East Journal. Later, she became the editor-in-chief of CIDC Insight. She then started writing scripts for commercials.

She soon realized she wanted to direct her own stories. She believes that writing is the most important part of making a visual story. She also thinks that the best films are made when the writer and the director are the same person.

Focusing on Women's Stories

Ceyda Aslı Kılıçkıran is one of the few female directors from Turkey. She is also one of the few from the Middle East. Her work often explores the identity, equality, and freedom of Muslim women. She also focuses on women worldwide.

She writes stories that include spiritual ideas. She uses these spiritual elements to share messages of peace and humanity. This helps make her stories more meaningful.

Notable Films

In 2007, she wrote and directed a film called Geçerken Uğradım (Whilst on My Way). This movie was about the life of a modern woman. The famous Turkish actress Hale Soygazi starred in it. The film was dedicated to Duygu Asena, a journalist and activist for women’s rights.

Her 2007 film Kilit (The Lock) told the story of Afife Jale. Afife Jale was the first Muslim theatre actress in Turkey. This film won an award from the Foundation of Women's Works and Library in 2008. Ceyda Aslı Kılıçkıran also received an offer from American film producer Robert Richter. He wanted her to make a documentary about the lives of Muslim women in the Middle East.
