The Chamberlain-Flagg House is a very old and important house in Worcester, Massachusetts. It's built in a special old style called "timber frame." Many people believe it's one of the oldest buildings in the entire city! We don't know the exact year it was built. However, it's one of the best examples of an 18th-century home in Worcester. Because it's so special, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

What Does the House Look Like? And Its Story!

The Chamberlain-Flagg House is located in a quiet, suburban area of northwestern Worcester. You can find it at the corner of Brookshire Road and Flagg Street.

House Design and Features

This house is a two-and-a-half-story building. It is made of wood and has a pointed roof. The outside of the house is covered with wooden boards called clapboards. There are two chimneys on the house. One chimney comes up through the middle of the front roof. The other chimney is on the right side of the house.

The front of the house has three sections with windows. The main door is in the middle. The windows are placed a little unevenly around the door. The front entrance was updated in the 1900s. It now has small windows on the sides and a large, pointed roof over the door. A two-story section extends from the left side of the house. There is also a screened porch on the right side.

A Glimpse into History

People think the house was built around 1742. The land originally belonged to the family of Jacob Chamberlain. He was one of the first settlers in the area. However, some also believe it was built by early members of the Flagg family.

By the year 1800, the house belonged to Elisha Flagg. His wife was from the Chamberlain family. The style of the house looks like homes built by the very first settlers. Some parts of the house suggest it was changed in the 1700s. For example, the main chimney is placed a bit forward of the roof's highest point.
