Charles Baldwen was an English politician born in 1593. He was a member of the English Parliament, called the House of Commons, from 1640 to 1644. During this time, England was going through a big conflict called the English Civil War. Charles Baldwen supported the King's side, known as the Royalists.

Charles Baldwen: A Politician in Tough Times

Charles Baldwen's father was William Baldwin. Their family lived in a place called Elsich. This was in the parish of Diddlebury, England.

Becoming a Member of Parliament

In April 1640, Charles Baldwen was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP). He represented the town of Ludlow. This first Parliament was known as the "Short Parliament." It didn't last very long.

Later that same year, in November 1640, he was elected again. This time, he became an MP for the "Long Parliament." This Parliament lasted for many years.

Supporting the King

The 1640s were a time of great trouble in England. The King and Parliament disagreed strongly. This led to the English Civil War. Charles Baldwen chose to support the King. His side was called the Royalists or Cavaliers.

Leaving Parliament

Because Charles Baldwen supported the King, he was removed from Parliament. This happened on February 5, 1644. Parliament decided he could no longer be an MP. This was because he had joined the King's side in the war.

Charles Baldwen's Family

In 1617, Charles Baldwen got married. His wife was the daughter of Francis Holland. The Holland family lived in Burwarton, Shropshire.

Charles and his wife had two sons. Their names were Samuel and Timothy. Both of his sons grew up to be very successful lawyers. They even received special honors called knighthoods.
