Charles Box was born on February 24, 1951. He is an American politician. He made history as the first African-American mayor of Rockford, Illinois. At the time, Rockford was the second-largest city in Illinois.
Becoming Mayor of Rockford
Charles Box was elected mayor of Rockford in 1989. He won with a large number of votes. This made him the first African-American mayor in Rockford's history. He officially started his job on April 24, 1989. As a Democrat, he brought new leadership to the city.
Serving as Mayor
