The Charles Chamberlain House was a special old house located at 373 Pleasant Street in Worcester, Massachusetts. It was built in 1876 and was known for its beautiful Victorian Gothic style. This style was very popular back then. The house was added to a list of important historic places called the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Sadly, it was taken down in 1984.
What the House Looked Like
The Charles Chamberlain House was in Worcester, Massachusetts. It was a two-and-a-half-story house made of wood. It had an L-shape and gabled roofs, which means the roofs had a pointed shape like a triangle.
The house had many interesting decorations. For example, it had fancy wooden trim called "bargeboard" in its gables. It also had vertical wooden siding on its walls. The porch was supported by delicate posts with leaf-like designs. The windows had special tops with pointed gables and sills supported by small brackets.
Who Lived There?
The first known owner of the house was Charles Chamberlain. He owned a company that made blades. His company also fixed and made lawn mowers and other small machines.
The house was probably moved on its property sometime between 1922 and 1938. This was done to make space for a church to be built next door. The Charles Chamberlain House was taken down in 1984. Today, the area where it stood is used for church parking.
