The Charles Connell House is a special old home in Woodstock, New Brunswick. It used to belong to a very important person named Charles Connell (who lived from 1810 to 1873). This house is so important that it was named a National Historic Site of Canada in 1975. This means it's a place that helps tell Canada's history! You can find it at 128 Connell Street.

History of the Charles Connell House

Building the House

The Charles Connell House was built around 1839, but we don't know who the architect was. It was designed for Charles Connell. This house is a great example of the Greek Revival style. In this style, wood is used to make the building look like it's made of stone. It was a very popular design choice at the time.

How the House Was Used

Past Uses of the House

For many years, the Charles Connell House was a private family home. Later, in the late 1800s and early 1900s, it was changed into several separate living spaces. Around the 1890s, it became a building with two apartments. Then, around 1920, it was divided into three apartments, and a fourth one was added around 1960.

Current Uses of the House

In 1975, the Carleton County Historical Society bought the house. They wanted to save this important building. Today, the house is used by the society to keep their historical records, old items, and their main office.

A big project was finished in 2008 to restore the house. They made it look more like it did when it was first built, before it was divided into many apartments. The Connell House is also a place where people can hold meetings, weddings, or parties. It has a kitchen for catering events.
