Charles Vinson Graham Jr. (born February 26, 1951) is an American politician. He served as a member of the North Carolina House of Representatives for the 47th district. Graham is a member of the state-recognized Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina. For a time, he was the only Native American serving in the North Carolina General Assembly.
Charles Graham's Work in Government
Charles Graham has been involved in many important areas of government. He was a member of the Election Law Committee. This committee helps make sure elections are fair and follow the rules. He also served on the Subcommittee on Business and Labor. This group looks at laws that affect businesses and workers.
Graham has also served on several other important committees. He was the Vice Chair of the Agriculture committee, which deals with farming and food. He worked on the Appropriations committee, which decides how state money is spent. He was also Vice Chair of the Commerce and Job Development committee. This committee focuses on creating jobs and helping businesses grow.
He was a member of the insurance committee. He also served on subcommittees for Justice and Public Safety, and for Education (K-12). These groups help make decisions about laws for schools and public safety. Graham also worked on the Transportation committee, which deals with roads and travel.
Running for Congress
In October 2021, Charles Graham announced he wanted to run for Congress. This means he wanted to represent his state in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, D.C. His campaign video became very popular online, getting millions of views.
At first, he planned to run in North Carolina's 9th congressional district. However, after the district maps were redrawn, he decided to run in the 7th congressional district instead.
