Charles Hoare (born August 25, 1767 – died November 16, 1851) was an important leader at the banking company called C. Hoare & Co. He was known as the Senior Partner of the firm.

A Life in Banking: Charles Hoare's Career

Charles Hoare was born into a well-known family. His father was Sir Richard Hoare, who was the first Baronet of his family. A Baronet is a special title, like a knight, that can be passed down through the family. Charles was the younger brother of Sir Richard Hoare, 2nd Baronet.

In 1787, when he was 20 years old, Charles became a Partner at the banking firm C. Hoare & Co. Being a Partner meant he was one of the owners and decision-makers of the bank.

In 1800, Charles Hoare asked a famous architect named John Nash to design a beautiful country home for him. This home was called Luscombe Castle and was built near Dawlish, in Devon, England. It was a peaceful place for him to relax away from the city.

Charles Hoare was also interested in science and learning. In 1809, he was chosen to be a Fellow of the Royal Society. This is a special honor given to people who have made important contributions to science.

Later, in 1829, Charles Hoare started the building of a new main office for the bank. He eventually became the most important leader, or Senior Partner, of the company. He passed away in Dawlish in 1851. Even though he didn't start the bank, the company still uses the Hoare name today.

Charles Hoare's Family Life

In 1790, Charles Hoare married Frances Dorothea Robinson. Her father was Sir George Robinson, 5th Baronet. Charles and Frances did not have any sons.
