Charles John Kemeys Tynte (born April 9, 1800 – died September 16, 1882) was an important English politician. He was a member of the Liberal Party. This means he believed in ideas like fairness and progress for everyone. He served in the House of Commons, which is a big part of the UK government, similar to a parliament. He was a Member of Parliament (MP) for two different times between 1832 and 1865.

Charles Kemeys Tynte was born in 1800. His father was also named Charles Kemeys Kemeys-Tynte, and his mother was Anne Leyson. He grew up to be a well-respected person in his community. He was known for his work in both politics and the military.

A Career in Politics

Charles Kemeys Tynte began his political journey in 1832. He was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) for a place called West Somerset. An MP is someone chosen by the people to represent them in the House of Commons. He held this job until 1837.

Later, in 1847, he was elected as an MP again. This time, he represented the area of Bridgwater. He continued to serve the people of Bridgwater until 1865. Being an MP meant he helped make laws and decisions for the country.

Military Service

Besides his political work, Charles Kemeys Tynte also had a military career. He was a Lieutenant-Colonel in the West Somerset Yeomanry. The Yeomanry was a type of volunteer cavalry force.

In 1849, he became a Colonel of the Royal Glamorgan Light Infantry militia. A militia is a group of citizens trained for military service, usually in emergencies. He led this regiment until he retired from military service in 1862.

A Man of Science

Charles Kemeys Tynte was also interested in science. In 1834, he was chosen to be a Fellow of the Royal Society. The Royal Society is a very old and famous group of scientists. Being a Fellow means he was recognized for his contributions or interest in scientific knowledge.

Later Life

Charles Kemeys Tynte was married twice. His first wife was Elizabeth Swinnerton. They married in 1820. Later, in 1841, he married Vincentia Brabazon. He lived to be 82 years old and passed away in 1882.
