Charles Maule Ramsay (born 1859, died 1936) was a British army officer. He was also a Member of Parliament (MP) for a short time. He belonged to the Liberal Unionist Party.

Early Life and Adventures

Charles was the youngest son of the 12th Earl of Dalhousie. His father was an admiral in the Royal Navy. Charles joined the Royal Artillery as an officer. But he left the army when he was still quite young.

Life in America

He moved to the United States. There, he became a rancher. In 1885, he married Martha Estelle Garrison from New York. Later, he tried to find gold in the Klondike Gold Rush. This happened in the Yukon Territory, Canada. But he was not successful.

Return to Scotland and Politics

Charles returned to Scotland. He became an officer in the Forfarshire and Kincardineshire Artillery Militia. He owned a large estate in Forfarshire.

Becoming a Member of Parliament

In 1894, Charles was chosen to run for Parliament. He was the Liberal Unionist candidate for a special election. This election was in Forfarshire. The previous MP had left his job. The Liberal Party chose a candidate from London. Many local voters were unhappy with this choice. They decided to support Charles Ramsay instead. He won the election and became an MP.

Short Time in Parliament

Charles was an MP for only a few months. In the next general election in 1895, he lost his seat. The Liberal candidate, Martin White, won that time.

Later Life and Service

When the First World War began, Charles Ramsay returned to active army service. After the war ended, he spent his time helping others. He did volunteer work for the Navy, Army and Air Force Institutes. This organization supports service members and their families.

Charles Maule Ramsay did not have any children. His wife passed away in 1904. He died in London in April 1936. He was 77 years old.
