Becoming a Knight and Advisor

In 1664, Sir Charles was given a special honor. He was knighted in Ireland on September 4th. This meant he earned the title "Sir." Later, in August 1671, he became a member of the Privy Council of Ireland. This council was a group of trusted advisors to the King or Queen.

Role as Chancellor of the Exchequer

In 1674, Sir Charles Meredyth was given a very important job. He was made the Chancellor of the Exchequer. In this role, he was in charge of all the government's money and finances in Ireland. He managed the country's budget and taxes.

Changes in Power

Sir Charles served as Chancellor until 1687. At that time, King James II was on the throne. King James II replaced many officials, and Sir Charles was replaced by Bruno Talbot.
