The Charles Miles House is a historic home located in Worcester, Massachusetts. It was built around 1850. This house was once considered one of the best examples of the Italianate style in the city.

The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. This list helps protect important buildings in the United States. Over time, some of the house's original outside features have changed.

Discovering the Charles Miles House

The Charles Miles House is found in a part of Worcester called Brittan Square. It sits on Lincoln Street, which is also known as Massachusetts Route 70. The house is a two-story building made of wood. It has a modern outside covering now.

What Does It Look Like?

The house has a porch on the front. This porch has a low, sloped roof and square posts. These posts create arched openings, giving the porch a classic look. The edge of the porch roof has a decorative pattern called dentil moulding. This pattern looks like small blocks. You can also see this detail on a bay window that sticks out on the right side of the house.

When the house was first listed as historic, it had many fancy details. These included decorative corners and a special roof edge. It even had a "widow's walk," which is a small platform on the roof. However, these original features are no longer there today.

A Look Back in Time

The Charles Miles House was built around 1850. It was built for Charles Miles. He worked as a clerk in the city's treasury department. This means he helped manage the city's money. The house stands as a reminder of Worcester's past.
