Charlie Brown's Fresh Grill is a well-known American restaurant chain. It was once called Charlie Brown's Steakhouse. This restaurant offers a relaxed, casual dining experience. Its main office is in Washington Township, New Jersey. Today, you can find Charlie Brown's locations in Scotch Plains and Woodbury, New Jersey.

History of Charlie Brown's

Charlie Brown's Steakhouse first opened in 1966. It was started by three business people in Warren Township, New Jersey. The very first restaurant was on Valley Road. It quickly became famous for its prime rib. People also loved the special house salad with egg, shrimp, and catalane dressing. You could also choose a fresh salad bar.

The restaurant became very popular. Soon, more Charlie Brown's locations opened across New Jersey. They also expanded into nearby states like New York and Pennsylvania. A company called CB Holding Corp. first owned the restaurants. Later, in 1997, Castle Harlan bought Charlie Brown's. Then, in 2005, Trimaran Capital Partners took over. Since 2011, Praesidian Capital, a private equity company, has owned Charlie Brown's Steakhouse.

Changes and Reopenings

In 2010, the company that owned Charlie Brown's faced some financial challenges. This led to many restaurants closing down. About 29 Charlie Brown's locations were part of these closures. However, in 2011, a new company from New York bought 20 Charlie Brown's restaurants. Most of these were in New Jersey.

More recently, some locations closed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the remaining restaurants is in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. Good news for fans in Woodbury, New Jersey: their Charlie Brown's location reopened on April 18, 2022.
