Charlotte Howe, Viscountess Howe (born 23 September 1703 – died 13 June 1782) was an important lady who lived in the royal court in Great Britain. She was born in Hanover, which is now part of Germany. She was known as a courtier, meaning she attended the royal family, and also had a role in politics.

Early Life and Royal Connections

Charlotte was born as Baroness Sophia Charlotte Mary von Kielmansegg. She was the oldest daughter of Baron and Baroness von Kielmansegg. Her mother, Sophia von Kielmansegg, was the half-sister of George Louis, who later became King George I of Great Britain.

When George Louis became King of Great Britain in 1714, Charlotte's family moved with him from Hanover to London. This meant Charlotte grew up close to the royal family and the important people of the time.

Marriage and Family

On 8 August 1719, Charlotte married Emanuel Howe, 2nd Viscount Howe. King George I supported their marriage by giving them money each year, which helped them start their new life together.

Charlotte and Emanuel had ten children. Three of their sons became very famous in British history:

These sons all became Viscounts Howe one after another and were important military leaders.

In 1722, Charlotte officially became a British citizen through a special law passed by Parliament. This process is called being "naturalised."

Later Life

Lady Howe lived a long life. She passed away in 1782 at her home in Albemarle Street in London. She was buried in a place called Langar.
