Chart Korbjitti (born June 25, 1954) is a famous Thai writer. He is known for his powerful stories and novels.

He became well-known in 1981 when his novel Khamphiphaksa (which means The Judgment) was published. This book was named Book of the Year by Thailand's Literature Council. It also won him the important S.E.A. Write Award. He won this award again in 1994 for his book Wela (meaning Time). In 2004, he was honored as a National Artist in Literature. This is a very special award for artists in Thailand. He also received the first-ever Silpathorn Award for modern Thai artists.

Chart Korbjitti was born in the Khlong Sunak Hon area. This is in Samut Sakhon province in Thailand.

Early Writing Life

When he was just 15 years old, in 1969, Chart published his first short story. It was called Nak Rian Nak Leng. This story appeared in a school magazine at Wat Pathum Khong Kha School.

Later, in 1979, his short story Phu Phae won an award. It was the Cho Karaket short story award from Lok Nangsue magazine.

Chart decided to become a full-time writer. He once said that he chose this path for his whole life. He has dedicated himself completely to writing.

His Own Publishing House

Chart Korbjitti also started his own publishing company. It is called Samnakphim Hon, which means "Howling Books." This company publishes all of his written works.

  • Chon Trok (1980): Another novella, later published in English as No Way Out in 2003.

  • Mit Pracham Tua (1984): This is a collection of his short stories.

  • Nakhon Mai Pen Rai (1989): Another collection of his short stories.
