Chase & Sanborn Coffee is a well-known American coffee brand. It was started a long time ago, in 1864, in Boston, Massachusetts. Two people, Caleb Chase and James Solomon Sanborn, created the company. They were involved in coffee roasting and importing both tea and coffee. Chase & Sanborn says it was the very first coffee company to package and send out roasted coffee in special sealed tins. This helped keep the coffee fresh for longer!

History of Chase & Sanborn Coffee
The story of Chase & Sanborn Coffee involves several big companies over the years.
Early Ownership Changes
In 1929, a large company called Standard Brands bought Chase & Sanborn. The coffee brand stayed with Standard Brands until 1981. At that time, Standard Brands joined with another company to become Nabisco.
Changes in the 1980s and 1990s
Nabisco later sold Chase & Sanborn in 1982 to General Coffee Co. This company was owned by Alberto Duque from Colombia. However, Duque's business faced problems. His creditors (people he owed money to) sold Chase & Sanborn in 1984. Hills Bros. bought the company then. Just one year later, in 1985, Nestle became the new owner of Hills Bros. and Chase & Sanborn.
Recent Owners
Nestle decided to sell its coffee businesses in the United States in 1999. Sara Lee bought these businesses, including Chase & Sanborn. Finally, in 2006, the Chase & Sanborn brand, along with others like Hills Bros., MJB, and Chock Full O' Nuts, were sold to the Massimo Zanetti Beverage Group. This company owns Chase & Sanborn Coffee today.
