Chase Alan Hooper (born September 13, 1999) is an American mixed martial artist. He is known for his strong skills in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, a type of martial art focusing on grappling and ground fighting. Hooper currently competes in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), which is the biggest mixed martial arts organization in the world. He fights in the Lightweight division.

Chase Hooper's MMA Journey

Chase Hooper started his journey in mixed martial arts (MMA) while he was still in high school. He fought as an amateur in his home state of Washington. He had a perfect record, winning all five of his amateur fights. Four of these wins came by "stoppage," meaning the fight ended early, usually by knockout or submission.

After his successful amateur career, Hooper made his professional debut on October 7, 2017. He won this fight by using a move called a "rear-naked choke submission" in the first round. This showed off his excellent Brazilian jiu-jitsu skills. He was already a champion in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at a young age, having won gold and silver medals at the Pan American Championships.

Joining the UFC: Dana White's Contender Series

Chase Hooper got a big chance to join the UFC through a show called Dana White's Contender Series. This show allows up-and-coming fighters to compete for a contract with the UFC. Hooper fought Canaan Kawaihae on July 24, 2018, and won the fight by a unanimous decision. This win earned him a "development league contract," which meant he was on his way to the UFC.

Before officially joining the UFC, Hooper fought three more times in other promotions. He won two of these fights and had one draw. These fights helped him gain more experience before stepping into the famous UFC Octagon.

Chase Hooper in the Ultimate Fighting Championship

Chase Hooper made his first appearance in the UFC on December 14, 2019, at UFC 245. He faced Daniel Teymur and won the fight in the first round by technical knockout. This was a great start to his UFC career.

His first professional loss came on June 6, 2020, at UFC 250, when he lost to Alex Caceres by a unanimous decision. But Hooper quickly bounced back. On December 12, 2020, at UFC 256, he won against Peter Barrett with a "heel hook submission" in the third round. This was a great comeback win for him.

On June 12, 2021, Hooper fought Steven Peterson at UFC 263. Peterson weighed more than allowed for their fight, so it became a "catchweight" bout. Hooper lost this fight by unanimous decision.

In 2022, Hooper had another exciting win. On May 21, 2022, at UFC Fight Night 206, he defeated Felipe Colares by technical knockout in the third round. This impressive performance earned him a "Performance of the Night" bonus award, which is given to fighters who have outstanding performances.

Later that year, on October 29, 2022, Hooper faced Steve Garcia at UFC Fight Night 213 and lost by TKO in the first round.

Hooper returned to the Lightweight division in 2023. On May 20, 2023, he won against Nick Fiore by unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 223. He continued his winning streak on November 18, 2023, at UFC Fight Night 232, where he submitted Jordan Leavitt with a rear-naked choke in the first round.

In 2024, Hooper kept showing his submission skills. On May 11, 2024, at UFC on ESPN 56, he won against Viacheslav Borshchev with a "brabo choke" submission in the second round. His most recent fight was on December 7, 2024, at UFC 310, where he defeated former champion Clay Guida with an "armbar" submission in the first round. This win also earned him another "Performance of the Night" bonus.

Grappling Competitions

Besides MMA, Chase Hooper also competes in professional grappling matches. These are fights where athletes only use wrestling and jiu-jitsu moves, without punches or kicks.

  • On December 30, 2021, he competed against Renato Moicano at Fury Pro Grappling 3 and lost by decision.
  • A year later, on December 30, 2022, he faced Clay Guida again at Fury Pro Grappling 6 and won by using a "calf-slicer" submission.
