Chatham is a small place located in Medina County, in the U.S. state of Ohio. It is known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and businesses that isn't officially a city or town with its own local government.

The Story of Chatham

Chatham was first planned and settled in the 1830s. The people who started the community named it after Chatham, New York. This was because many of the first families who moved here came from that town in New York.

For a time, Chatham was also known as Chatham Center. A place to send and receive mail, called a post office, opened in 1837. It was first named "Chatham Centre." Later, in 1893, its name changed to "Chatham Center." However, this post office closed just two years later, in 1895.

Besides the post office, Chatham also had a country store. This store, which opened around 1840, was an important place for people to buy supplies and meet up.

• Roscoe Wilfred Thatcher was a notable person connected to Chatham. He was an important agricultural scientist and later became the president of several universities. He worked to improve farming methods and education.
