Chattacon is an exciting yearly event for fans of science fiction and fantasy. It takes place in Chattanooga, Tennessee. This fun convention is put together by a group called Chattanooga Speculative Fiction Fans, Inc. They are a non-profit organization, which means they don't make money for themselves.

The first Chattacon happened in 1976. By 2014, over 1,200 people came to the event. It's a great place to meet authors, artists, and other people who love science fiction and fantasy stories.

What is Chattacon?

Chattacon is a "convention," which is like a big gathering or festival. People come together to celebrate their favorite books, movies, and games that are about science fiction, fantasy, and horror. It's a chance to learn new things, meet creators, and hang out with others who share your interests.

How Chattacon Started

Chattacon was started by a person named Irv Koch from Chattanooga. The very first Chattacon was held in January 1976. It was a smaller, more relaxed event. Only 81 people attended that first year.

By the third Chattacon in 1978, it had grown into a more traditional science fiction convention. Famous writer A. E. van Vogt was a special guest. The event became more popular and helped fund future Chattacon events.
