Cherry Ames' Nursing Game facts for kids
Cherry Ames' Nursing Game, also known as Cherry Ames: A Nurses' Training Game, is a fun board game from 1959. It was made by Parker Brothers and is played by two to six people. This game is based on the popular Cherry Ames mystery books for young readers, written by Helen Wells and Julie Campbell Tatham. The game was special because it showed women in a good and strong way, which was not very common in games at that time.
How to Play
The main goal of Cherry Ames' Nursing Game is to become the first player to graduate from nursing school! In the game, each player pretends to be a student nurse. You move your game piece around the board, which looks like different parts of a hospital.
Becoming a Nurse
To win, you need to collect six special colored rings. These rings show that you have completed different parts of your hospital training. After you collect all six rings, you must be the first player to reach the 'Graduate' space on the board. The first player to do this wins the game and becomes a "full-fledged nurse"!
Game Challenges
Playing the game involves moving your token through different hospital rooms and hallways. Along the way, you might land on spaces that make the game more exciting. For example, you could get a card that says, "You have stumbled onto the secret of the "Broom Closet"! Take any ring from the board." This helps you get closer to winning. But watch out! Other cards might make you move backward, like "Dr. Wylie said to Cherry, "Wipe that rouge off your face!" Move back four spaces." These cards add fun challenges and surprises to the game.
