Chicago Urban League facts for kids
The Chicago Urban League is an important group that helps people in Chicago, Illinois. It started in 1916. This organization is part of a bigger group called the National Urban League. The Chicago Urban League works to create programs and partnerships. They also speak up for people to help them find jobs, start businesses, get affordable homes, and receive good education.
When many African Americans moved from the Southern United States to the North, including Chicago, this was called the Northern Migration. Because of this big move, leaders from different backgrounds created the League. Its first goal was to help these new arrivals settle into their new city.
History of the League
The Chicago Urban League has been helping the community for over a hundred years. In June 2018, Barbara A. Lumpkin became the Interim President and CEO of the organization.
More recently, in the spring of 2021, the League received a large grant. This was a $100,000 grant from Pfizer. The money was used for a special project. This project was a "Vaccine Safety and Effectiveness Campaign." It helped share important information about vaccines with the community.

The Chicago Urban League also publishes reports about important issues. These reports help people understand challenges in the community.

One report, called Still Separate ..., was published in 2005. It looked at how different racial groups lived in Chicago. The report found that Chicago was one of the most racially separated cities in the United States. It was the fifth most separated residential area at that time.
