Chilón is a town and municipality located in the southern part of Mexico, in the state of Chiapas. A municipality is like a local government area, similar to a county or district. Chilón covers a large area of about 2,490 square kilometers.
What is Chilón Like?
Chilón is a vibrant place with many people living there. In 2010, the total population of the municipality was over 111,000! This was a big jump from about 77,000 people in 2005.
Main Town and Other Communities
The main town, also called Chilón, had a population of about 7,368 people in 2010. But the municipality is much bigger than just this one town. It includes 703 other communities, some small and some quite large.
Some of the biggest communities in the Chilón municipality (with their populations in 2010) include:
