Children's Book of the Year Award for New Illustrator facts for kids
The CBCA Award for New Illustrator is a special prize given every year by the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA). It used to be called the Crichton Award for Children's Book Illustration. This award celebrates new artists who create amazing pictures for children's books in Australia.
The award started because of a gift from Wallace Raymond Crichton in 1985. A "legacy" means a gift of money or property left to someone or an organization. The very first award was given out in 1988.
In 2019, the award became part of the main CBCA Book of the Year Awards. That's when its name changed to the CBCA Award for New Illustrator. A special committee now manages it, and it's funded by the CBCA Awards Foundation.
