Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Children's Book Council of Australia Awards are super important prizes for Australian kids' books! They were started by the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) way back in 1946. Back then, there was only one award category. Today, these awards have grown a lot. There are now five main categories in the Book of the Year Awards. Plus, many other awards are given out every year by the CBCA across Australia.

The very first winner of an award received a special flower called a "camellia." For many years, the awards got money from the government (from 1966 to 1988). More recently, they are supported by donations from people and companies. In 1995, the CBCA created a special foundation to make sure these awards would always have enough money for the future.
