The Children's Book of the Year Award: Eve Pownall Award for Information Books is a special prize given to amazing non-fiction books for young people in Australia. It celebrates books that teach you new things in a fun and interesting way. This award first started in 1988. Eve Pownall's family helped fund it back then. Since 1993, the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) has given out this award every year.
About the Eve Pownall Award
What Makes a Winning Book?
The Eve Pownall Award looks for outstanding books that share factual information. Judges consider how well the book presents facts in an imaginative and clear way. They also think about how easy it is to understand.
Here are some things the judges look for:
- Clear Language: Is the writing style easy to read and understand?
- Great Pictures: Are the illustrations excellent, clear, and appealing?
- Text and Pictures Work Together: Do the words and images combine well to make the book interesting and help you learn?
- Good Design: Is the book designed in a way that makes it easy to find and understand information?
- Accurate Facts: Is all the information in the book correct and up-to-date?
