The Children's Museum of Atlanta is a fun place for kids to learn and play. It is located in Atlanta, Georgia. From 2003 to 2011, it was known as "Imagine It! The Children's Museum of Atlanta."

This museum first started in 1988. Back then, it was called a "Museum Without Walls." This meant it offered programs in the community without having its own building. The museum officially opened its doors to the public in 2003. It is in Downtown Atlanta, right next to Centennial Olympic Park.

The museum is 16,316 square feet. It has many exhibits made for children under nine years old. Schools and learning centers from all over North Georgia visit the museum for field trips.

The museum has a special group called The Imaginators. They are professional actors. They help guide school groups through the museum. They also create fun, hands-on activities for kids. The Imaginators even put on lively 20-minute mini-musicals. These shows often match the current traveling exhibit. They make learning and playing exciting.

History of the Museum

For its first fifteen years, the Children's Museum of Atlanta was unique. It was a "Museum Without Walls." This meant it didn't have a main building. Instead, its staff created programs that helped young people learn about their community. They also taught kids about their role in it. The community itself was seen as the museum.

The museum's building opened in March 2003. It is located on the ground floor of Museum Tower. In March 2013, the museum celebrated its tenth birthday. There were special events and a giant birthday card.

The museum closed for a short time on August 1, 2015. It underwent a big renovation that cost $8.2 million. During this time, a new 3,000-square-foot second floor was added. A two-story climbing structure was also built. Many other new permanent exhibits were installed. The museum reopened its doors on December 12, 2015.
