This museum first started in 1988, but it didn't have a building back then. It was like a "Museum Without Walls." It officially opened its doors to the public in 2003. You can find it Downtown, right next to the famous Centennial Olympic Park. The museum is about 16,316 square feet, which is a lot of space for exploring! It's one of four children's museums in Georgia. The exhibits are made for kids under nine years old. Many schools and learning centers from all over North Georgia visit for exciting field trips.

The museum has a special group of professional actors called The Imaginators. They make field trips even more exciting! They lead groups through the museum and invent cool, hands-on activities. They also create amazing shows, including short 20-minute musicals. These shows often match the special traveling exhibits. The Imaginators help kids learn and play at the same time.

Discover the Museum's History

For its first fifteen years, the Children's Museum of Atlanta was a "Museum Without Walls." This meant it didn't have a main building. Instead, its staff created programs to help young people learn about their community. They believed the community itself was the museum.

The museum's building opened in March 2003. It is located on the ground floor of Museum Tower. In March 2013, the museum celebrated its tenth birthday. They had special events and a giant birthday card!

The museum closed for a short time on August 1, 2015. This was for a big $8.2 million renovation. They added a new second floor, which was 3,000 square feet. They also built a two-story climbing structure and many new permanent exhibits. The museum reopened its doors on December 12, 2015, with all these exciting new features.
