Kids Encyclopedia Facts

The Children's Own Museum first opened its doors in 1997. It started as a special, temporary exhibit at the Harbourfront Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. From 1998 to 2002, the museum was located in the building that used to be the McLaughlin Planetarium.

In March 2013, the museum changed its name to the Children's Own Media Museum. It began creating fun and educational materials for schools and cultural places all over Ontario.

About the Museum

The Children's Own Media Museum is currently led by Museum Director Che Marville. Dr. Robert Logan, an expert on the ideas of Marshall McLuhan, also helps lead the museum.

Where is the Museum Now?

Right now, the museum does not have a permanent building. It is looking for a new home. Even without a fixed location, the museum continues to offer special interactive workshops and programs.

Past Programs and Events

For example, the museum ran family programs at Harbourfront in 2012 and 2013. They also had a program at the CN Tower in 2009.

The Children's Mobile Media Museum

In October 2011, an article in the Toronto Star's ParentCentral.ca website talked about a new project. This project was called the Children's Mobile Media Museum. It was described as a team-up between the Children's Own Museum and the McLuhan Legacy Network. This network helps share the ideas of Marshall McLuhan, a famous Canadian thinker.
