The Story of ABC Kids TV
The ABC has a long history of showing great programs for young people. Over the years, the way they show these programs has changed. Let's look at how ABC's kids' channels grew into what they are today.
Early Days of ABC Kids (Before 2009)
Before 2009, the ABC had a special brand called "ABC Kids." This brand was where all children's shows on the ABC were grouped together. It was separate from the main channels like ABC1 and ABC2.
On 7 March 2005, a new channel called ABC2 started. This was a big step! It meant that ABC Kids programs could be shown for 13 hours every day across both ABC1 and ABC2. This gave kids many more hours of their favorite shows.
Changes Before ABC3 Launched
To get ready for a new channel called ABC3, the "ABC Kids" brand was removed. All the children's shows then appeared on ABC1 and ABC2 alongside other programs. However, when shows for very young children (preschoolers) were on, the ABC used special, child-friendly animations. This showed a new identity called "ABC For Kids."
New Channels and Rebrands (2009-2015)
On 4 December 2009, the ABC launched ABC3. On the very same day, the children's programming block on ABC2 got a new name: "ABC For Kids on 2." This block had new looks, a new schedule, and a special logo on screen. All the shows for older, school-aged children moved to ABC3. This made "ABC For Kids on 2" a channel just for preschoolers.
In May 2011, this block changed its name again to ABC4KIDS. All the kids' shows on ABC2 were brought together under this new name. This created a daily 13-hour block of preschool programs on ABC2, running from 6 AM to 7 PM.
Finally, on 2 March 2015, the channel was rebranded one last time. It became known as ABC Kids, which is the name it still uses today.
