ABC Me (also known as ABC ME) is an Australian TV channel made just for kids and teens. It's free to watch and is owned by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, which is Australia's national public broadcaster. The channel first started on December 4, 2009, and was called ABC3 back then. It was officially launched by the Prime Minister at the time, Kevin Rudd.

How ABC Me Works: Who's in Charge?

ABC Me is run by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). The ABC is a big organization that manages many TV channels and radio stations in Australia.

Leading the Way for Kids' Content

The person in charge of all the ABC's TV channels is David N Anderson. He makes big decisions about what shows you see. For ABC Me specifically, Michael Carrington is the Head of Children's and Education. He decides what shows to create for ABC Me, whether they are for TV or for watching online on iview.

What to Watch: Shows on ABC Me

ABC Me broadcasts shows every day from 5:30 AM until about 10:30 PM. It's made for young people aged 7 to 17. When the channel isn't on air, it shows a message saying it will return at 5:30 AM. You can also hear music from the digital radio station ABC Jazz during these hours.

Types of Shows You'll Find

The channel offers many different kinds of programs. You can watch comedies, dramas, music shows, cartoons, extreme sports, wildlife documentaries, and news programs.

Australian Stories and Global Adventures

ABC Me tries to show at least 50% Australian-made content. This means many of the shows are created right here in Australia! Some popular Australian shows include My Place (a historical drama), Mal.com (a sitcom), and Little J & Big Cuz (an animation series). There's also Behind the News, which is a news and current affairs show that has been on ABC Me for a very long time. You're Skitting Me is another fun sketch comedy show.

ABC Me also created Pet Superstars, which was also shown on ABC 4 Kids.

Where Shows Are Made

Many ABC Me shows are played from a special facility called MediaHub in Brisbane. Some shows like Studio 3 and Prank Patrol were filmed and produced in Melbourne.

Connecting with the World

Unlike some other TV channels, ABC Me can show a lot of programs from other countries. They get shows from broadcasters like CBBC (from the UK), ZDF (from Germany), and Yoopa (from Canada). In 2017, ABC Me started broadcasting the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, which is a big music competition for young singers from different countries. They have broadcasted it in 2017, 2018, and 2019.
