Chinchilla de Monte-Aragón, often just called Chinchilla, is a town in Spain. It is located in the province of Albacete. This province is part of the Castilla–La Mancha region.

Chinchilla is a municipality. It covers a large area of about 679 square kilometers. In 2018, about 4,182 people lived there.

Location and Population

Chinchilla de Monte-Aragón is about 15 kilometers from Albacete. Albacete is the capital city of the province. Many people who live in Chinchilla work or study in Albacete. This makes Chinchilla a bit like a "dormitory town." This means people sleep there but spend their days elsewhere.

The municipality includes several smaller villages. These are places like Casa Blanca de los Rioteros and La Felipa. Other villages are Horna, Pinilla, Pozo Bueno, Pozo de la Peña, and El Villar de Chinchilla. The wines made in El Villar de Chinchilla are very special. They belong to the Almansa Denominación de Origen. This is a special quality label for wines.

Chinchilla's Role in History

Chinchilla has an interesting history. In 1822, Spain changed its map. Chinchilla was chosen to be a provincial capital. But this change did not last long. In 1833, the capital moved to Albacete. This is how it remains today.

How the Town is Governed

Since 1991, the town has been led by the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE). This political party helps to govern the municipality.
