What Was the Museum About?
The Choco-Story museum was located in a part of Manhattan called Hudson Square. It used to be where Jacques Torres made his chocolates. Later, his chocolate-making moved to a much bigger place in Brooklyn. The museum was about 5,000 square feet (about 465 square meters) in size.
Inside, the museum showed many interesting things about how chocolate was made long ago. You could see old pottery and knives. These tools were used by the Maya people as far back as 3500 BC. That's a very long time ago! The museum also had items used for eating chocolate. For example, there was a cup from Spain made in 1750 from a coconut shell and silver.
Exploring the World of Chocolate
Visitors to the museum could watch live demonstrations. They saw how yummy chocolate bonbons were made. They also learned how traditional Mexican hot chocolate was prepared. It was a great way to see chocolate being created right in front of you.
There was even a fun play area just for kids. In this area, children could pretend to dig for chocolate "artifacts." They could also imagine they were running their own chocolate shop and kitchen. Older visitors could take hands-on classes to learn more about chocolate making.
How Did It Begin and End?
The idea for the Choco-Story museum in New York came from Eddy Van Belle. He had already opened similar chocolate museums in Belgium, France, and Mexico. The New York museum was the fifth one he created.
The Choco-Story New York museum opened its doors on March 7, 2017. It welcomed many visitors who loved learning about chocolate. However, the museum closed on March 1, 2019. Even though it's closed now, it helped many people learn about the amazing history of chocolate.
