The Story of Chocolat Poulain
How it All Started
The story of Chocolat Poulain began with a man named Victor-Auguste Poulain. He started making chocolate in large amounts in 1848. This happened in a town called Blois, in France. He later turned his business into a bigger company in 1893.
Victor-Auguste Poulain had a big idea. He believed that more people would buy chocolate if it was affordable for everyone. So, he found new ways to make chocolate in factories. He also created fun marketing campaigns. These campaigns were often aimed at children and families.
Chocolat Poulain and the Tour de France
Chocolat Poulain became even more famous in 1975. They sponsored a special part of the Tour de France bicycle race. This part is called the "mountains classification." During this time, the famous polka dot jersey was first used. This jersey is given to the best climber in the race.
The design of the polka dot jersey was inspired by an old cyclist named Henri Lemoine. People loved the polka dot design so much that Chocolat Poulain started using it on their chocolate bar wrappers too!
