Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Chocolats+Croisier is a famous Swiss company. It makes fancy, high-quality chocolates. For a long time, it was the oldest chocolate maker in Switzerland. It started way back in 1815.

The Story of Chocolats+Croisier

How It All Began

A man named Charles Henri Daniel Croisier started the chocolate factory. This was in 1815 in a city called Geneva, Switzerland. He named his company "Croisier-Chaulmontet." Mr. Croisier had a simple goal: to make only the very best chocolate.

Making chocolate in 1815 was very hard work. A chocolate maker could only produce about 5 to 6 kilograms of chocolate each day. That's not much!

Growing and Modernizing

In 1844, Mr. Croisier's son took over the business. The company started using machines in 1850 to make chocolate faster. This was a big step forward!

By 1884, the company was using the power of nature. They ordered two large water wheels. These wheels were turned by the Rhône River. This helped power their chocolate production.

In 1927, the company opened a new factory. This one was in Lausanne and made chocolate powders. In the same year, the company officially became "Charles Croisier SA."

A New Chapter

In 1950, Chocolats+Croisier had to close. This was because of tough economic times around the world.

Today, Chocolats+Croisier is a small business. It is still owned and run by the same family.
