Early in his career, he was part of the National Youth Union of Mali. In 1997, he became the leader of a political party in Mali called the Patriotic Movement for Renewal.
Political Journey

He served as the Minister of Industry and Commerce for several years, from 2002 to 2007. During this time, he worked under different prime ministers.
In 2005, he represented Mali at important trade discussions in Hong Kong. He once used a famous quote to explain how big countries' trade policies affected smaller countries like Mali. He said, "They are like elephants fighting. We are like the grass under their feet." This meant that when big countries argue or make trade rules, smaller countries often feel the negative effects.
In the 2007 presidential election, he again supported Amadou Toumani Touré, who was re-elected. After that, Choguel Maïga was appointed to lead the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission in 2008. He held this position until 2015, when he became the Minister of the Digital Economy, Information and Communication. He left this role in 2016.
